Budget airline Ryanair couldn’t resist a playful jab at Lance Stroll after Aston Martin confirmed the Canadian will remain with the team for another Formula 1 season alongside Fernando Alonso. The airline took to social media, quipping: “Lance Stroll [and] Ryanair passengers, both paying for their seats,” referencing the long-running ‘pay driver’ narrative that has followed Stroll throughout his F1 career.
Stroll has often faced criticism due to the financial backing of his billionaire father, Lawrence Stroll, who secured him an F1 seat at Williams in 2017 and later acquired the Racing Point team—now Aston Martin. Despite the jokes, Stroll expressed his commitment to the Silverstone-based team, stating, “I know we are heading in the right direction, and my commitment is stronger than ever to help us achieve our goals.”
Team executive chairman Lawrence Stroll praised the driver pairing, calling both Lance and Alonso “a crucial part of our journey” and emphasizing their combined experience and value to the organization.
As Stroll prepares for his ninth consecutive season with the team, Ryanair’s social media banter highlights the ongoing scrutiny—and humor—that follows the Canadian’s F1 journey.
